Associate Vice President for Academic Innovation
About The Position
South Dakota Mines seeks an Associate Vice President for Academic Innovation (AVPAI). The Associate Vice President for Academic Innovation (AVPAI) is a visionary and strategic leader responsible for advancing educational innovation across South Dakota Mines. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the AVPAI will drive initiatives that enhance experiential, interdisciplinary, and innovation-based learning across all academic units. This role is central to positioning Mines as a national leader in engineering and science education, deeply integrating real-world problem solving, industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship into the academic experience.
Requirements
- Earned PhD in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline.
- Minimum 15 years of academic experience, including at least 10 years in academic leadership (e.g., department chair, program director).
- Significant track record of developing and implementing innovative academic programs or pedagogical models.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively across disciplines and with industry partners.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience as an ABET Program Evaluator
