About The Position

Within a complex, highly matrixed system the Associate Vice President of Children’s Services is responsible for leading overall strategic planning; legal and regulatory compliance; financial management; relationship development; operations and human resources management to include the Transitional Care Unit, campus Facilities, campus Dental Services, the Virginia Treatment Center for Children and locations covered in the northern region of the state. This includes activities related to future growth, increasing access, patient/provider experience, and optimizing care across the long-term care and behavioral health continuums. The Associate Vice President ensures the assigned Departments` compliance with both VCUHS and VCU policies and procedures. This individual must be capable of: • Representing this entity internally and externally by working to develop relationships with front-line team members; internal stakeholders; including members of senior leadership; and external stakeholders • Driving change through influence and building consensus to promote quality outcomes • Building trust with colleagues, subordinates, and supervisors • Pursuing opportunities that promote the relevance of Children’s Services within the larger community • Translating Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU’s vision so that the vision is both understood and leveraged by front-line team members and members of the leadership team to drive operational excellence • Maintaining a balance of being entrepreneurial while meeting the needs of the organization and pursuing excellence in all aspects of performance. Ensuring Children’s Services programs and services are appropriate to relevant stakeholders • Works with all relevant stakeholders to develop and/or enhance programs and services to anticipate the future needs of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. • Collaborates with physician leaders to ensure departmental and divisional goals are met. • Engages with clinical leaders (nursing, physician, professional services) to implement plans that support achieving organizational strategic goals. Executing on day-to-day patient and team member safety activities in a way that supports the organizational efforts to be a highly reliable organization. • Engages in safety event review and takes immediate action to ensure a patient, team, and visitor safety. • Ensures effective implementation and complete loop closure for identified issues that pose a risk to safety. • Effectively communicates the status of safety event issue resolution to leaders and front-line team members. Achieving strategic and operational budgetary, financial, and operational goals consistent with the mission, vision, and values of both VCU Health System and Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at VCU • Ensures appropriate systems are implemented to effectively monitor and manager financial targets. • Works collaboratively with clinical and administrative leaders to ensure staffing productivity targets are effectively established, monitored, and managed. • Develops and implements action plans to ensure financial targets are met. Providing coaching, mentorship, and development of direct reports. • Develops a talent management plan for current and future team members. • Develops a succession plan for critical positions. • Identifies stretch goals to encourage continuous growth. • Provides effective and timely performance management that recognizes and rewards a job well done. • When corrective guidance is required, provides feedback that is clear, supportive, and outlines expectations for future performance. Miscellaneous Responsibilities • Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects to support the mission of Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU and VCU Health System. • Provides assistance to team members and accepts alternate assignments as required. Patient Population Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide equitable care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Care Administration or related field
  • Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA) in Commonwealth of Virginia within 18 months of hire
  • Minimum of ten (10) years progressively responsible experience with financial management, administrative / operational, and / or supervisory experience with experience in long term care and behavioral health strongly preferred
  • Leadership, relationship building, communication, and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Care Administration or related field
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia
  • Possess a broad background in healthcare with a track record for effectively leading in complex and high matrix organization
  • Proven track record of delivering results (financial, team / patient satisfaction, clinical, safety)
  • Demonstrated track record of building strong relationships as a leader amongst a diverse workgroup
