About The Position

Under the general direction of the Vice President and Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) for Information Technology Services, and as a member of the Information Technology Services (ITS) leadership team, the AVP for Technology Operations will manage the flow of technology requests from both within and outside the IT department, develop and implement a comprehensive service strategy, gather requirements, and lead continuous process improvement initiatives to ensure high-quality, efficient operations. Information Technology Services (ITS) is a fast-moving team responsible for helping Cal Poly achieve academic excellence through developing and implementing learning, teaching, and administrative solutions which leverage technology that align with strategic goals and objectives. With a focus on continuous improvement, ITS fosters innovation, supports continuous learning, and develops people to their full potential. The team of more than 170 professionals works in a DevOps environment to shape the technology landscape at Cal Poly.

Requirements

  • Master's degree and/or advanced degree in information technology or a related discipline
  • ITIL Foundation Certification or higher
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification
  • Certified Service Management Professional (CSMP) or similar certification
  • Working knowledge of the California State University (CSU) governance structure, e.g., Information Technology Advisory Council (ITAC), Information Technology acquisition, security procedures
  • Familiarity with policies and laws related to higher education (FERPA, ADA, etc.)
  • Experience in a large, complex, and diverse institution
  • Demonstrated experience with the full implementation of large-scale technology projects
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience demonstrating progressive leadership in technology infrastructure and operations
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience in IT infrastructure management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
