The primary purpose of this position is to support the underwriting function through customer service and rating and processing of underwriting files. This person works under direct supervision but also capable of taking some independent action and may have some limited underwriting authority following standard processing procedures. This person assists the underwriting team in processing and reviewing new and renewal business, riders, cancellations, and reinstatements for agents in accordance to established underwriting guidelines. Works closely with more experienced underwriters and participates in review, evaluation, selection, triage, renewal quoting, etc. in an effort to further develop underwriting skills as well as free up some of the underwriter’s time so they can concentrate on more complex risks. Provides excellent customer service, develops strong customer service skills. Triages incoming business according to underwriting criteria and prepares referrals to the appropriate underwriter if request is beyond their authority or scope.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree or successful completion of at least two years as an Underwriting Technician
  • This person assists the underwriting team in processing and reviewing new and renewal business, riders, cancellations, and reinstatements for agents in accordance with established underwriting guidelines.
  • Works closely with more experienced underwriters and participates in review, evaluation, selection, triage, renewal quoting, etc. in an effort to further develop underwriting skills as well as free up some of the underwriter’s time so they can concentrate on more complex risks.
  • Provides excellent customer service, develops strong customer service skills.
  • Triages incoming business according to underwriting criteria and prepares referrals to the appropriate underwriter if request is beyond their authority or scope.
