About The Position

We are seeking Associate Teachers for the 2026-27 school year for Prek 3 though 4th grades. Our Associate Teacher Program is committed to coaching, supporting, and inspiring new teachers in their journey to becoming a progressive practitioner. Associate teachers work directly with a mentor teacher, academic assistant and principal/early childhood director for their campus. They become valuable contributors through their collaboration with the Stevens community to help guide and hone their teaching skills. In order to provide a range of learning experiences in the three year program, associate teachers will work in at least two different grade levels and with at least two different head teachers (if a head teacher moves to another desired grade level). You are passionate about working with children, have well-developed communication skills, and are committed to teaching and learning. You are open to receiving feedback from head teachers and academic administrators. You are a professional who is energetic, has a positive attitude, and is a self-starter. You work well with others in a small community and can instill confidence in the program with parents as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Arrival by 8:15am
  • Attend a selection of weekly faculty meetings, Back to School Night, and formal Parent-Teacher Conferences (in fall and spring)
  • Attend start of year and closing faculty meetings
  • Attend grade-related field trips (including overnight trips if applicable) and certain evening events involving grade-level students

Responsibilities

  • Support the head teacher in the day-to-day class activities including arrival, dismissal, morning meeting, recess/lunch, lesson support, classroom management, and transitions
  • With the head teacher and in consultation with the school counselor and learning specialist, develop an understanding of each student holistically
  • Assist the head teacher in establishing productive parent/caregiver relationships
  • Assist the head teacher in lesson planning in the subject areas of language arts, social studies, math, and community building
  • Be ready to assume responsibilities for the class in the absence of the head teacher and with the support of a community teacher
  • Assist the head teacher in conducting student assessments in language arts and mathematics
  • Assist the head teacher in the writing of reports and Class News, and when conducting parent/guardian conferences
  • Develop effective classroom management strategies
  • Demonstrate reliability and professional communication
  • Attend goal setting meetings with the building administrator, complete self-reflections regularly each year with evidence of development of skills in different areas of practice
