About The Position

This role is for an Associate Teacher at the Child Development Center within Lexington Health. The Associate Teacher assists the Teacher with the daily supervision of children and implementation of classroom curriculum and activities. This role involves providing and teaching age-appropriate basic care for children, including feeding, hand-washing, changing diapers, and potty training. The Associate Teacher also performs student record keeping and communicates regularly with parents as instructed by the Teacher, while adhering to CDC and DSS safety guidelines and regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire and renewed biannually.
  • Employees in this role without 30 days experience must be supervised by senior staff.
  • 15 hours of DSS Training annually.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Teacher with the daily supervision of children and implementation of classroom curriculum and activities.
  • Provides and teaches age appropriate basic care for children, including feeding, hand-washing, changing diapers, and potty training.
  • Performs student record keeping and communicates regularly with parents per Teacher instructions.
  • Adheres to CDC and DSS safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Provides a safe and nurturing learning environment through responsive and sensitive care that is age and developmentally appropriate for the children in the classroom, collaborating with families to meet each child's individual needs.
  • Performs basic housekeeping functions in the classroom to adhere to sanitary requirements.
  • Assists with weekly lesson plans, maintains student portfolios, and performs essential record keeping.
  • Introduces and establishes positive guidance techniques including self-talk, redirection, role play, discussion, and modeling positive behaviors.
  • Builds positive relationships between the children, families, and team members.
  • Implements teacher-led activities for physical movement both indoors and outdoors that are safely monitored through zoning, supervision and proper ratios.
  • Utilizes the CDC's communications application, which includes attendance and transitions, recording lessons/activities, daily report/activity entries, and communication with families.
  • Mentors and trains new staff to follow CDC expectations of executing routines that support a safe and positive classroom environment.
  • Attends staff meetings/workshops and completes annual continuing education.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
