Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and PLS-CADD. Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
Requirements
- Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Nice To Haves
- Diploma or Certificate preferred.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
Responsibilities
- Supports engineering teams under general supervision
- Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
- Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
- Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, departmental guides, and BV policies and procedures
- Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
- Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
- Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
- Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
- Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
- Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
- Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes
