Associate / Sr. Associate, CRE Underwriting
About The Position
Overview POSITION SUMMARY: The Associate / Senior Associate will be responsible for driving the initial review, origination, underwriting/due diligence, and closing commercial real estate loans originated by Bayview Asset Management. The Senior Associate will have the opportunity to work with multiple debt products: bridge/transitional, CMBS, construction and mezzanine solutions for all commercial real estate classes, in addition to working on other structured real estate financing transactions. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, works effectively in teams, is detail oriented, and able to work on multiple transactions at once in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Ability to work in a highly paced and dynamic environment required
- Expert use of Excel.
- Excellent spelling and grammar
- Finance, business, or project coordination experience is required
- 3-7 years CRE underwriting experience at a prior rating agency, bank, or asset management firm.
Nice To Haves
- Preferred knowledge of Argus, Co-star, Reis and other market data sources
- Ability to work in a highly paced and dynamic environment preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in business, real estate, science, engineering or math field is preferred
Responsibilities
- Obtain and perform in-depth due diligence including but not limited to reviews of rent rolls, financial statements, tax returns, third party reports (appraisals, engineering and environmental), insurance policies/documents, property related contracts, leases, flood determinations, zoning, bank account analysis, aged receivables, personal financial statements & other pertain information to assess potential risks and the property’s ability to generate sufficient operating income to pay debt service;
- Complete thorough cash flow analysis and ratio analysis as well as commercial loan structuring and documentation for accuracy, completeness and adherence to approved underwriting and closing conditions;
- Prepare written documentation (Investment Committee Memo, ASR) of loan terms, conditions and narratives explaining the loan request, Sponsor’s business background, loan risks and mitigating factors and ensuring conformity to BAM’s credit policies and procedures;
- Work closely with various BAM departments including Real Estate Valuation and CRE asset management teams ensuring compliance with BAM’s credit policies and procedures;
- Perform site inspections;
- Participate in coordinating responds to B-piece buyer’s, rating agencies’ and other investors’ inquiries;
- Exercise exemplary corporate citizenship including strict adherence to compliance requirements and Bayview’s tenets;
