About The Position

Join the Provider Portal Production Support Team at BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee! We’re hiring an Associate Software Engineer I. On this team, you’ll take on the critical role of protecting the Provider Portal’s quality and availability. No two days will be the same! You’ll constantly tackle new challenges and pride yourself on preventing incidents that could cause major business disruption. To succeed, you’ll need to have the confidence to be assertive and challenge the status quo (and the discipline to document everything). Our ideal candidates will bring: Programming experience (in Java, .NET or Python) and an understanding of APIs Strong foundation with SQL (including experience generating reports) Excellent problem-solving skills (and a willingness to talk to anyone who may be able to help you troubleshoot) Notes: Every two months, this role will require a full week of after-hours availability (24x7). You’ll assist in development for the first 6 months here; then, you’ll be working in a production support environment. Sponsorship is not available for this role.

Requirements

  • Programming experience (in Java, .NET or Python) and an understanding of APIs
  • Strong foundation with SQL (including experience generating reports)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (and a willingness to talk to anyone who may be able to help you troubleshoot)
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent work experience required.
  • Equivalent years of experience are determined as one year of technical experience for every year of college requested.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to design, develop, modify, or integrate information systems
  • Devises or modifies application systems and procedures to optimize functional requirements including capacity, operating time, response time, and form of desired results.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents programs, subroutines, and scripts.
  • Maintains technical skill set for software languages, databases, platforms, operating systems, utilities and networks needed to support work assignments.
  • Responds to system failures and performance events by taking appropriate measures to reduce system downtime and eliminate recurrence of problems.
  • May conduct presentations to provide end users with knowledge to maximize their use of developed systems.
