About The Position

The Lewis Katz School of Medicine’s Center for Metabolic Disease Research is searching for a highly motivated Associate Scientist with a strong Cardiovascular, Molecular, and Cellular Biology background. The successful candidate should perform experiments based on predetermined research protocols and objectives. Autonomously manages day-to-day research activities requiring in-depth technical knowledge and experience in a specific area or discipline. Designs and executes experimental protocols for assigned projects. Serves as an authoritative source on research practices, precedents, theory, and principles. Our laboratory has long-standing and productive research projects to study the role of vascular remodeling and inflammation.

Requirements

  • PhD in biology, molecular biology, or MD degree or a related field, and at least four years of postdoc research experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability in literary searching, designing, and conducting experiments, precise record keeping meeting NIH standards, data analyzing, and interpretation for assigned project(s).
  • Demonstrated ability to keep precise records and use appropriate statistical analysis tools to analyze data.
  • Excellent technique and experience in primary mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, RNA/DNA purification, site-directed mutagenesis, protein extraction, immunohistochemistry, Western blot analysis, and ELISA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with mice in a research setting. Demonstrated ability to maintain mouse colonies, including tagging and genotyping.
  • Ability to work with genetically modified mouse models and disease models.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain IACUC and/or IBC protocols.
  • Ability to operate all standard laboratory and office equipment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite and data analysis and presentation software (Prizm, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Image J, etc.).
  • Must be highly collaborative, self-motivated, results-focused, team-oriented, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with excellent interpersonal skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Autonomously manages day-to-day research activities requiring in-depth technical knowledge and experience in cardiovascular or related research fields.
  • Designs and executes experimental protocols for assigned projects.
  • Performs experiments based on predetermined research protocols and objectives, collects, analyzes, and presents data.
  • Supervises students and/or other trainees in the lab and ensures all projects are completed promptly.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for the lab to adhere to University and NIH policies and ensures lab members adhere to all policies.
  • Responsible for maintenance of lab stock (mouse lines, plasmids, bacteria stock, antibodies, etc.) and lab regulatory document keeping.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment in good order, places lab orders, and maintains accurate records.
  • Assists in grant and manuscript preparation.
  • Assists regulatory protocol, including but not limited to IACUC, IBC, and IRB, preparation, and submission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
