About The Position

This position performs protocol-driven microbiological method validations and supports testing for the Clinical Supply organization and the BMS network of microbiologists. Testing will include but not be limited to bioburden, endotoxin, mycoplasma, minute virus of mouse, microbial identifications, sterility, container closure integrity testing. Position will keep track of data in electronic systems or notebooks, and will be expected to write or contribute to reports. This position is a 100% hands-on laboratory position, supporting new and existing products in BMS. This is a laboratory position, enabling the incumbent to develop laboratory skills and gain exposure to areas within an innovative company. The position resides in the Product Development organization, in the Analytical Strategy & Operations division, Microbiology Center of Excellence department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Microbiology or Biology/Biological Sciences
  • Practical knowledge of classical, molecular, and/or rapid microbiology methods
  • Motivated, adaptable, and results oriented professional
  • Knowledge of the development and implementation of laboratory procedures, practices and standards
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships, and work across divisions, diverse business backgrounds and cultures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with fast paced environment and competing priorities
  • Knowledge of development and implementation of laboratory procedures, practices, and standards
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or Biology/Biological Sciences.
  • Experience (5 yrs) in pharmaceutical microbiology or R&D
  • Work is performed in a cGMP compliant laboratory following techniques which require one to maintain a high attention to detail, to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and to handle hazardous materials.
  • Work may be required on weekdays, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours on short notice.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of CMC and related manufacturing guidances and regulations
  • Experience in a pharmaceutical microbiology laboratory
  • Experience in executing bioburden, endotoxin testing, or other microbiological tests
  • Experience managing and maintaining equipment used in support of microbiological analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform protocol-driven microbiological testing (e.g., bioburden, endotoxin, container closure integrity, microbial identifications, molecular testing for mycoplasma, in-use hold time studies, studies for investigational support).
  • Write/revise SOPs and test methods.
  • Notify management of deviations or exceptions in a timely manner.
  • Execute instrument qualification studies as per approved protocols.
  • Perform and oversee required maintenance on laboratory equipment and automation systems.
  • Observe and evaluate existing laboratory practices and propose alternative approaches to simplify and streamline ways of working.
  • Support the implementation of electronic records and laboratory automation system projects.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of novel methods.
  • Travel to other sites may be required within the local area and there may be an opportunity for travel to other sites/conferences, if appropriate.
