About The Position

ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST - COMPLIANCE | ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Ability to understand and implement permit parameters effectively for sampling or other requirements for several different industries. Perform Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) inspections of regulated areas and outfalls as required by state-specific or site-specific permits. Inspections include visual monitoring of stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) and escalation of required corrective actions to be implemented including significant new materials or regulated activities that drive plan/permit changes, non-stormwater discharge evaluations, stormwater discharge visual assessment. Complete sampling requirements (visual or analytical sampling requirements) on-time in a safe and time-efficient manner. Ability to review the analytical data from the sampling results and notify the project or program manager(s) of any exceedances or overages. Track inspections and sampling requirements, corrective actions/corrective actions reports (CARs), and communication with project/program managers. Request information and communicate with various governmental and regulatory organizations. Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations. Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established OSHA and internal requirements. Required to follow safety standards. Required to wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas. Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization's goals. Help project manager perform environmental audits, as assigned, for ISO 14001 program, other regulatory programs, or as requested by clients. Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of maps and aerial photography.
  • Capable of managing deadline-driven projects and workload.
  • Ability to work in both a field and office environment.
  • Understand and interpret regulatory guidelines.
  • Analyze numerical and graphic data.

  • Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities with the ability to multi-task.
  • Must be extremely reliable, have a curiosity for problem solving, a desire to learn and succeed and a high level of energy.

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • For insurability purposes a valid Driver's License is required.
  • Undergraduate degree in Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Must be able to attain Class E Driver’s License within first week of employment.
  • Must complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training within the first 2 weeks of employment.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT and Hazmat Physical.
  • Must be able to safely wear all required PPE including respirators.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) - three (3) year experience in and/ or exposure to environmental consulting, compliance.
  • Familiar with SWPPP and SPCC inspections/document requirements.
