About The Position

Monitors the safety and security of the Gateways Percy Village facility by conducting regular rounds and property searches. Monitors client behavior and reports all relevant information to the next shift. Ensures that the facility and grounds maintain compliance with our licensing and regulatory agencies, including Community Care Licensing and the AOA. Coordinates with Engineering for all maintenance and repair needs of the facility. Acts as a liaison with other departments, such as Engineering, Nutrition Services, IT, EVS, and others, to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of services. Assists staff with answering telephones, signing clients in and out of the facility, and assisting with client meals. Manages and coaches the Paraprofessional Counseling Staff, including providing guidance, training, investigation, and disciplinary actions. Leads triage of operational needs in the absence of the Residential Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to work and relate effectively with multidisciplinary treatment team, clients and the public.
  • Ability to assess clients for dangerousness and intervene in a timely, calm and appropriate manner.
  • Lead and manage a group of paraprofessional counselors.
  • Make triaging decisions for operational needs as needed.
  • Manage employee investigations, disciplinary actions, coaching, and timesheets of employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, use good judgment, and remain calm in crisis situations.
  • Proven ability to work with adult clients.
  • Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet computer programs.
  • Ability to work various hours and shifts.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors (i.e. security rounds and transportation of supplies).
  • Ability to be objective, stable and firm with clients who have psychiatric disabilities
  • Ability to accept direction from supervisors and complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to appropriately provide direction to clients
  • Crisis intervention techniques and basic counseling skills.
  • Able to dispense emergency medications to residents as needed.
  • High School Diploma
  • Two (2)years’ experience in mental health, social services, or counseling.
  • Experience in a residential setting.
  • One (1) year successful management or supervisory experience
  • Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), and Community Care Licensing (CCL) background clearance.
  • Valid California Driver’s license.
  • TB clearance.
  • Driving record acceptable for coverage by Gateways insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains communication with Paraprofessional team members throughout the shift to assure that all tasks are covered, and offers assistance where needed.
  • Provides clients with transportation, as needed.
  • Leads all scheduled emergency drills. Ensures that drills are conducted according to policy, and that the frequency of drills is in accordance with Gateways policy and requirements of contract agencies
  • Responds to incoming calls on evenings and weekends.
  • Aids Residential Manager with monitoring the maintenance of all facility emergency equipment, including the fire alarm system, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and panic button alarm system.
  • Conducts daily and monthly security checks of premises and submits outcome reports to Residential Manager and Program Director.
  • Conducts regular QA audits to ensure compliance with rounds protocols. Submits outcomes to the Residential Manager and Program Director.
  • Reports safety hazards, maintenance and housekeeping needs to the Residential Manager.
  • Aids Residential Manager with facility sanitation by monitoring that the residential rooms, grounds, activity buildings and staff offices remain in compliance with regulatory agencies and licensing standards.
  • Observes and records resident’s behavior and activities, monitors hygiene on Program forms, prompting clients to engage in ADLs as necessary. Reports any unusual or concerning behavior to the appropriate staff members via the shift summary.
  • Supervises and monitors client activities throughout the facility.
  • Monitors and ensures that clients take prescribed psychotropic medications, also that emergency medications are accurately recorded if dispensed to resident.
  • Initiates Incident Reports when appropriate. Participates in the delivery and investigation of Incident Reports with the Residential Manager.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency or problematic situations; i.e. enacts on-call notification procedure, notifies immediate supervisor, staff, administration, police, fire department, ambulance and paramedics as appropriate.
  • Assists in situational crisis intervention as needed via use of verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Provides a good role model for residents in terms of reliability, social skills, professionalism, tact, leadership, grooming and integrity.
  • Performs other additional tasks as directed.
  • Participates in Paraprofessional counselor meetings, in-service training, and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Assists the treatment team in arranging emergency transportation for psychiatric and medical emergencies.
  • Maintains an objective, professional relationship with clients at all times.
  • Works effectively with clients who may be angry, hostile, or agitated. Handles periodic encounters with clients or others who may be psychotic, unstable, and/or intoxicated by alcohol or street drugs.
  • Receives, stocks, and maintains supplies for facility as needed.
  • Aids Residential Manager with training all staff members on search, security, and emergency procedures.
  • Provides administrative supervision to Paraprofessional staff.
  • Provides shift and on call coverage for emergency consultation and intervention outside of regular work hours.
  • Helps Residential Manager in conducting and monitoring orientation for newly hired staff.
  • Provides support to Residential Manager during CCL visits/investigations and participates in implementing new workflows/action plans to ensure compliance with Title 22 regulations.
  • Assists in personnel actions, such as recruitment, evaluations and implementing progressive disciplinary action.
  • Also performs other duties as assigned.
