About The Position

Department of Medicine – Section of Pulmonary/Critical Care & Allergy/Immunology at The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center ( LSUHSC ) School of Medicine in New Orleans is seeking an outstanding physician-scientist or basic scientist to join our faculty. The successful applicant will be appointed to the Ernest N. Morial Asthma, Allergy, and Respiratory Disease Center Endowed Chair. The holder of this Chair will be responsible for advancing the research of asthma, allergy and respiratory diseases in populations with significant health disparities, as well as for mentoring fellows and junior faculty members in research initiatives; if a physician is the incumbent, s/he will also be involved in developing clinical practice opportunities, and in supporting resident and fellow education. The Section of Pulmonary/Critical Care & Allergy/Immunology consists of 11 full-time and one part-time faculty members and has a fully-accredited subspecialty training program for 14 fellows. The section has established research programs in pulmonary host defense, alcohol abuse, HIV -related pulmonary disease, mycobacterial disease, and critical care. LSUHSC School of Medicine is currently expanding its relationships with its private clinical partners. The new University Medical Center (continuing the tradition of Charity Hospital) in New Orleans has been open since 2015. A recently awarded NIH -funded IDEA grant provides support for training of clinical scientists and translational and clinically relevant research. These resources provide career development opportunities for School of Medicine faculty. The incumbent will have an academic faculty appointment at the LSU School of Medicine at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and record of academic achievement.
