About The Position

The Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology offers a unique opportunity for an Associate Professor to contribute to the Department's plan for growth in the developmental/regenerative biology space. We are currently seeking to recruit an outstanding and established investigator whose research aims to unravel the gene regulatory mechanisms that drive cell fate changes during development and tissue regeneration, and to understand how these mechanisms are disrupted in response to inflammation and diseases including aging, cancer, and degenerative disorders. The ideal candidate will be developing cutting-edge -omics technologies, which will benefit both the investigator's research program and the broader scientific community. Candidates who demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities, will be given first consideration: Expertise in gene regulatory mechanisms underlying cell fate decisions, development, and tissue regeneration and how inflammation impacts these processes. Strong understanding of how disruptions in gene regulation contribute to diseases, including aging, cancer, and degenerative disorders and crosstalk with inflammation and immune system. Demonstrated ability to apply and develop cutting-edge omics technologies (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics). Proficiency in experimental design and data analysis for large-scale omics approaches. Ability to integrate fundamental biological questions with technological innovation. Experience collaborating across disciplines and contributing to shared scientific resources. Strong record of advancing research that benefits both individual projects and the broader scientific community. Experience garnering and managing collaborative grants and projects and proven ability to renew funding for such projects. Applicants for this position will be considered for the following titles, Associate Professor and Professor. The title is determined by the experience and qualifications of the finalist. The successful candidate’s research program should advance understanding of the gene regulatory mechanisms that direct cell fate changes during development and tissue regeneration, with emphasis on how disruption of these processes are impacted by inflammation and contribute to aging, cancer, degenerative disorders and other disease. Candidates employing innovative multi-omics, genome-editing, and single-cell approaches to study these mechanisms are especially encouraged to apply, as are those developing broadly applicable technologies that strengthen both their own program and the wider scientific community. Faculty research will be supported by the highly collaborative environment of the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology, with opportunities to partner across the School of Medicine and Public Health and the UW–Madison campus. Researchers benefit from access to outstanding core facilities in genomics, proteomics, imaging, and computational biology. Department: School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology T he Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology faculty has expertise in areas that extend from developmental genetics, genomics and epigenomics, proteomics, cell biology and functional studies in vitro and in vivo. The department's foundation in basic sciences informs translational research addressing grand challenges in development, repair and regeneration of organ systems including their response to injury, diseases including cancer, and tissue loss. The Department offers a stimulating, collaborative, and inclusive environment for research, training, and education. UW-Madison is home to the Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center, the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center, the Waisman Center for Developmental Disabilities, the McPherson Eye Research Institute, and the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Research is supported by modern shared facilities including the UW Optical Imaging Core, Center for High Throughput Computing, and many others. Cell and Regenerative Biology faculty mentor graduate students in several graduate programs across campus, with many trainees supported by NIH T32 training grants. Requirements

  • At least 6 years post-graduate experience in biochemistry is required.
  • Candidates with high-impact discoveries, success in attracting extramural funding and a history of important research publications is required.
  • Areas of focus must gene regulatory mechanisms underlying cell fate decisions, development, and tissue regeneration and how inflammation impacts these processes.
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, or related field required.
  • For an appointment at Associate Professor or Professor rank on tenure track, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the UW Divisional Committee guidelines for promotion or appointment to Associate or Professor on the tenure track.
