Primary Duties Department Chair: Leading faculty and students in fulfilling the vision and mission of the Department of Music as well as CSUP's overarching institutional vision and associated goals. If applicable, collaborating effectively with the Assistant Department Chair and, when necessary, delegating appropriate tasks to the Assistant Chair; Mentoring and supervising faculty, administrative assistants, and other departmental employees; Modeling collegial personal interactions and maintaining a collaborative departmental environment predicated on the principles of shared governance; Organizing and chairing regular department meetings; Transparently managing and allocating departmental budgets, and advocating for the department's financial needs; Completing Annual Performance Reviews for faculty and administrative assistants, and making recommendations concerning promotion and tenure; Attending to personnel issues; Creating the department's course schedules; Directing curriculum development and strategic long-term planning; Orienting adjuncts and new instructors; Coordinating the department's advising activities; Processing applications for sabbatical leave; Maintaining the department’s NASM accreditation; Overseeing and actively supporting student recruitment and enrollment activities; Preparing reports for the institution; Monitoring articulation agreements; Effectively collaborating with the CHASS Dean's office; For the duties and responsibilities associated with the role, Department Chairs receive an additional annual stipend of $12,000, which also compensates for summer work. Upon return to a full ranked faculty line, instructional responsibilities will increase to the CSUP standard of 80% of the faculty workload, with the remaining 20% allocated as 10% to service and 10% to research, scholarship, and creative activities. Chair duties satisfy departmental service expectations. The Department Chair is an at-will position and subject to renewal after the completion of each standard three-year term. Instruction: Instructional duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook. A base teaching load of 6 credits per semester; One or more Music Methods course(s) for Music Education majors; Oversee and advise Music Education majors in collaboration with CSU Pueblo’s Department of Education; Additional teaching duties will be based on candidate’s areas of expertise, such as applied music lessons, ensembles, or lecture courses. Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity: Active and ongoing engagement in scholarly and/or creative activities in accordance with departmental expectations and CHASS guidelines.
