The Multi-disciplinary Design Division ( MDD ) within the College of Architecture + Planning invites applications for an ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR ( LECTURER ) OF DESIGN – non-tenure track career line lecturer. We are seeking a passionate, experienced educator / practitioner who can impart fundamental design skills and approaches in a multi-disciplinary context, as well as bring their own specialization to add to the range of design disciplines with the College. This position will be a nine-month appointment (1.0 FTE ) to begin on July 1, 2024. Initial appointments will be for 3 years, but can be extended for additional terms. Multi-disciplinary Design at the University of Utah is a digital, physical and platform product design program. We are a diverse community of academics, professionals and students engaging in design to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. Students in the program move through a series of experiences exposing them to new technologies, grounded research, craft / making, ethics, leadership skills, entrepreneurship and systems and strategic thinking. Faculty collaborate across campus and around the world, with funded projects resulting in spatial design interventions, installations, exhibitions, systems, policies, programs, community engagement and scholarly outputs that address multiple scales and environmental and social issues. Applicants for career-line lecturing positions must hold a terminal degree in a design related field: The definition of design includes all design and creative disciplines including industrial, product, fine arts, graphic, landscape, urban design, architecture and digital platforms. The responsibilities of the position involve teaching studio courses and seminar / lecture based courses (up to six per year in total) as well as selected administrative functions. Teaching assignments can be adjusted to reflect administrative leadership responsibilities, for example directorship of programs. In addition to teaching and administration, we seek candidates who will engage with the creative community of the division through sharing independent research, creative activity and professional practice, as well as participating in studio reviews and committee service.
