About The Position

The Associate Product Manager at A.O. Smith is responsible for managing day-to-day tasks across all segments within the product portfolio. This includes, but is not limited to, submitting product change requests, maintaining PIM data, and updating sales literature. The role involves supporting tactical activities for assigned product lines, performing product life cycle management, and collaborating with Segment Development Managers or Senior Product Managers on portfolio development. The Associate Product Manager will also conduct qualitative and quantitative research with customers, assimilate market requirements, and provide in-depth market, industry, and competitive analysis. They will monitor field issues, recommend product modifications, and assist in creating and maintaining sales and service support materials, as well as product update documents and technical communiques. Additionally, the role involves identifying obsolete products, contributing to new product opportunities, conducting research for future products, and supporting company events and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in technical or business related field
  • 1+ year of related work experience
  • Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation such a blueprints, electrical schematics, and product specifications.
  • Ability to effectively present information and ideas to cross functional teams.
  • Core competencies include analytical ability & problem solving, technical aptitude, portfolio management, and working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Support day to day tactical activities of product lines as assigned.
  • Perform product life cycle management as directed.
  • Collaborate with the Segment Development Manager or Senior Product managers on the development of product portfolio.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative research with existing and prospective customers, assimilate customer and market requirements
  • Provide in-depth market, industry and competitive analysis and positioning. Identify and document competitive threats, industry innovations and other industry related information.
  • Monitor and document field issues and recommend product modifications.
  • Assist in the creation, development, and maintenance of product sales and service support materials
  • Assist in the creation of product update documents, white papers and technical communiques as related to new functionalities and other high-priority product issues.
  • Identify products that are no longer needed
  • Provide input in new products opportunities
  • Conduct research to determine future products or services
  • Support trade shows and other company-sponsored events.
  • Give product presentations as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
