About The Position

The Department of Behavioral and Environmental Health in the College of Health Sciences is seeking applications for an Associate or Full Professor for Behavioral Health Promotion and Education.

Requirements

  • CPH, CHES, or MCHES certification is preferred.
  • Doctoral degree (DrPH, PhD, EdD) or equivalent in health behavior, health promotion and disease prevention, social and behavioral health, or a closely related discipline.
  • A tenure-earning faculty position, with expertise in behavior health promotion and education and maternal health.
  • A wide range of scholarly expertise that would complement or enhance our current department strengths, including, but not limited to cancer prevention and control, social determinants of health, health disparities/health equity, population health, nutrition, maternal and reproductive health, or environmental justice/environmental health.
  • Established record of scholarship and research in health promotion and disease prevention, theoretical underpinnings of social and behavioral health research/practice.
  • Must be eligible for graduate faculty status, including dissertation chair advisement.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary research (community-based).
  • Expertise to teach doctoral courses in Advanced Theoretical Foundations of Behavior.
  • Survey and Qualitative Research and Qualitative Research Methods.
  • Possess the ability to develop and teach Online public health courses.
  • Demonstrated skills for effective Online instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Teach MPH and Doctoral courses in the Behavioral Health Promotion and Education Concentration.
  • Serve as a Faculty Advisor for masters and doctoral students (MPH and DrPH).
  • Provide leadership to Chair Dissertation Committees and serve on Dissertation Committees.
  • Participate and provide leadership service on Departmental, College, and University Committees.
  • Contribute to the acquisition of external funding.
  • Collaborate, provide leadership, and serve in various roles on grant applications. (An interest in collaborating to establish campus-community partnerships is highly desirable).
  • Work cooperatively and with collegiality within a diverse university environment (students, faculty, staff, and administrators).
  • Maintain an active research and scholarship agenda that supports the JSU mission.
  • Publish regularly in peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly venues.
  • Collaborate with students to develop research/practice abstracts for local, national, and international conferences.
  • Engage and/or advance community partnerships/collaborations to improve the health and well-being of communities.
  • Contribute to extramural-funded research program informed by observational studies, community-based participatory research, qualitative research paradigms, intervention mapping, implementation science, and the application of innovative methodologies and approaches.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
