About The Position

Reporting to the Director, Network Field Services, the Associate Network Operations Technician will work closely with customers, peer technical groups, and other support organizations/groups in order to maintain a central local area network for over 30,000 users as well as multiple off-site locations throughout the New York City Metropolitan Area. The hours for this role are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years' related experience.
  • Knowledge of applications, including Visio, Cisco IOS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Technician should be familiar with the following: HSRP, Spanning Tree, VLAN configuration changes, SNMP monitoring, Radius authentication concepts, Network technology components, Network protocols like TCP/IP, UDP, and subnetting, Structured cabling systems, Fiber optic networks, DHCP, Network Switch Configuration & Troubleshooting via console & Remote Access.
  • Understanding of cabling infrastructure and differences between CAT 3, CAT 5/5e, and CAT 6 cabling.
  • Flexibility to participate in a periodic weekly 24/7 on-call rotation that may require working nights and weekends.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Possess excellent customer service skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Prioritizes and manages multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to handle moderate to heavy network supplies.
  • Be flexible in shifting priorities in a dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

  • CCNA Certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Aruba wireless solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Assembles, configures, and deploys Cisco switches/routers and associated hardware using Cisco IOS.
  • Reviews, analyzes, responds to, and implements work orders from the Network Engineering group for network configurations.
  • Patching of fiber for switch uplinks to campus backbone, utilizing multi-mode 62.5/50 micron and single-mode fiber.
  • Wireless access point provisioning.
  • Knowledge of technology for specific applications, including IPTV, AVB (audio-video bridging), 802.11ac (next-generation WiFi technology), and Apple AirPlay.
  • Knowledge of wireless access points that utilize PoE and midspan DC injectors.
  • Ability to survey locations for wireless coverage and installation.
  • Troubleshooting 10/100/1000 BaseT Ethernet connections with diagnostic devices.
  • Assists with documentation of basic / moderately complex hardware and services requirements.
  • Completes infrastructure deployment, maintenance, and lifecycle upgrades.
  • Monitors automated reports and responds to alerts for multiple hardware and software issues.
  • Provides installation and maintenance for Rolm telephone system, VoIP telephone system, Campus Ethernet network, and Campus Wireless network.
  • Hands-on deployment of Liebert Uninterruptible Power Supplies and set-up of remote monitoring for these devices.
  • Supports the EMOT (Emergency Management Team) relating to equipment setup and testing.
  • As part of the University's Essential Personnel, provides onsite support during emergencies (inclement weather, blackouts, power outages, State of Emergency, etc.)
  • Documentation of hardware locations/access using Visio, PDF files, etc., and updating our internal wiki.
  • Acts as a technical resource in assisting users with equipment and data; supports help desk in the exchange of information and advice; implements solutions or notifies outside vendors as required.
  • Completes assigned tasks on time, in budget, and to expected standards.
  • Participates in a periodic weekly 24/7 on-call rotation that may require working nights and weekends.
  • Interfaces with senior faculty and staff.
  • All other duties as assigned.
