The Marketing Specialist family is a generalist job family that covers a wide variety of marketing specialties including, but not limited to, the disciplines listed below. Incumbents in these positions are individual contributors and can be focused primarily on one specialty or can work on multiple disciplines. These specialties may deliver content & communications via a variety of methods such as digital, print and publication etc. Activities focus on executing plans and monitoring metrics, information and trends. Direct Marketing/Advertising/Promotional: Direct marketing involves sending promotional marketing materials directly to consumers (print and publication). Product/Brand Marketing: Product/Brand marketing is devoted to strategically bringing a new product or service to market. This discipline sets the strategy, guiding many of the other marketing specializations listed. Much of their work is based on research to understand the variables related to competitors’ products, review and synthesize consumer research information and meet with product development teams to better understand product features. This information formulates an overall product marketing strategy. Content Marketing: Content marketing is about creating content—generally any consumable piece of information—that serves a purpose beyond just promoting a product. Content marketing can build positive sentiment for a brand by attaching the brand to something genuinely helpful or entertaining. Social Media / Digital Marketing: Social Media / Digital Marketing increases product demand, enhances sales, identifies additional sales channels, and drives traffic to a company’s website using search engine optimization analytics and search engine marketing techniques while boosting overall brand awareness and customer loyalty. A variety of methods on various social media platforms are used, along with email and mobile marketing campaigns. Reviews online statistics, marketplace trends and best practices to optimize online marketing performance. Social media gives brands and businesses the opportunity to interact with the public in a personalized way. Database Marketing: Database marketers collect and report on information about consumer preferences to create targeted messages and marketing campaigns to consumers. Marketing Research & Analysis: Market researchers collect and analyze data on consumers, competitors, and market trends to provide insights that support decision making, conduct research using surveys to understand consumer behavior and preferences, prepare reports and presentations to communicate finding and recommendations to stakeholders, monitor industry data and trends to inform marketing strategies, and work closely with marketing teams to develop strategies based on research findings.
