About The Position

Associate Mainframe Systems Programmer This role is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their mainframe career to deepen their skills in the IBM z/OS environment while supporting high‑volume enterprise systems. You’ll work alongside senior engineers to maintain and enhance a parallel sysplex running CICS and DB2, help monitor performance, assist with automation, and participate in system programming tasks. This position is ideal for someone with foundational mainframe experience who is eager to grow into a broader systems programming role.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of experience working with or supporting IBM mainframe environments.
  • Foundational knowledge of tools and concepts such as SMP/E, JCL, TSO/ISPF, and performance data like SMF/CMF.
  • Familiarity with environments that use CICS, DB2, or WebSphere MQ.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Interest in Agile and DevOps methodologies.
  • A customer‑focused mindset with strong follow‑up and problem‑solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to z/VM or Linux on the mainframe.
  • Experience writing or maintaining REXX scripts.
  • Curiosity about performance tuning, automation, or capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Support the z/OS V3.1 operating system in a parallel sysplex environment for two mainframe systems running CICS and DB2, including participation in disaster‑recovery activities.
  • Assist with performance and capacity monitoring using tools such as SMF, MXG, WLM, and BMC AMI OPS.
  • Help build and maintain automation to detect, prevent, or resolve system issues, using scripting languages like REXX.
  • Participate in standard system programming tasks, including hardware configuration, software installation, maintenance, and vendor product updates.
  • Support areas such as storage management, performance tuning, capacity planning, security, networking, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with technical teams, operations staff, and application developers to enhance and maintain the mainframe environment.
  • Assist with software deployments and day‑to-day support activities as assigned by the department manager.
  • Build strong working relationships with business and development teams through clear communication and reliable follow‑through.
