About The Position

The Abercrombie & Fitch Legal-Retail Operations Team supports the Company worldwide in a variety of business-driving and rapidly-evolving areas of the law including omni-channel retail, marketing and advertising, consumer protection, product regulatory compliance, sustainability, and pricing and promotions. The Associate Legal Counsel will report to and support the Senior Legal Counsel in all the above areas of the law. They will work closely with other members of the global Legal and Compliance teams, outside counsel, and business partners throughout the Company, including members of the Marketing, Planning, Regulatory, Sustainability, Asset Protection, and Stores teams. This job is located at our Global Home Office in Columbus, Ohio

Requirements

  • JD degree and current license to practice law in the U.S. (eligible to obtain license in Ohio)
  • A minimum of 4+ years of relevant legal work experience
  • Excellent presentation and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Relationship builder and team player who thrives in a highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others, including cross-functional teams
  • An eagerness to take on novel issues and ability to manage a high volume of demands in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Problem-solver with outstanding analytical skills and a strong desire to find creative legal solutions

Nice To Haves

  • In-house counsel experience at a retail company is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Research and provide practical guidance on marketing and advertising, consumer protection, product safety/compliance and sustainability statutes, regulations and pending legislation around the world
  • Assist in partnering with the Marketing team on various customer initiatives and brand partnerships, including product claims, contests and sweepstakes, charity events and campaigns, social media influencers, etc.
  • Assist in advising the Planning and Marketing teams on global pricing and promotions issues, including conducting training on these topics.
  • Support compliance with various consumer protection matters, including gift card terms and return policy language.
  • Support the Customer Service and the Returns, Fraud and Abuse team in addressing general customer concerns and complaints
  • Assist in supporting the Regulatory and Quality Assurance teams with matters related to general product compliance, including child safety, labeling requirements and customer complaints; and
  • Assist in supporting Company sustainability initiatives and advise on global environmental and social sustainability regulations.
