About The Position

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Knoxville is accepting applications for the evening Practical Nursing Instructor position at TCAT Knoxville's main campus. The typical work schedule is 7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week during the evenings. POSITION SUMMARY: To provide quality instruction for student learning and maintain a positive classroom learning environment. The major emphasis will be placed on teaching and evaluating students in the classroom and laboratories. PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM: The Practical Nursing Program is approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Graduates will obtain a diploma in Practical Nursing and may then be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam for Practical Nursing (NCLEX-PN) used to obtain nursing licensure in Tennessee. Practical Nursing is entry-level nursing. Graduates are prepared with the background and skills to give knowledgeable, basic nursing care to patients with varying physical needs. Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) work under the supervision of registered nurses and doctors. Positions are available in hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician's offices, home health agencies, and other healthcare settings.

Requirements

  • ASN and current licensure are in good standing as a registered nurse in the State of Tennessee.
  • Three (3) years of clinical practice as a Registered Nurse within the past five (5) years.

Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Facilitate the classroom instructional process: evaluate and monitor student progress; assign grades; provide academic assistance to students; maintain attendance and grade records; counsel and advise students on career goals; work to retain students; maintain required classroom and office hours. - (Essential)
  • Course and Curriculum Development: Select texts, equipment, supplies, and other learning resources; participate in the purchase of needed program supplies and equipment; develop instructional materials; create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi. - (Essential)
  • Professional Growth: Remain current within instructional field and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college and division professional development and in-service activities; support related professional organizations; participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - (Essential)
  • Service to Students: Comply with FERPA laws; participate in advising, recruitment, admissions, and orientation of potential students; assist students with job placement upon graduation; support student activities, including SkillsUSA and NTHS. - (Essential)
  • Service to the College and Community: Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned; participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes; support and participate in the College’s decision-making processes; provide input and assistance with budgets; attend convocation and commencement exercises and participate in mandatory college programs; develop and maintain positive and cooperative relationships with colleagues; maintain an active program advisory committee; complete the annual Council on Occupational Education (COE) report for the program job placement of students as well as other accreditation requirements. - (Essential)
