About The Position

Colorado Mesa University is seeking a qualified graduate-prepared registered nurse for a non-tenure track Instructor of Nursing to primarily teach in the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSNt) program in Grand Junction and surrounding communities. This position seeks candidates with at least two years of pediatric and/or obstetrical clinical nursing expertise and includes the role of clinical lead.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or holding a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Colorado.
  • Minimum of two years of full-time professional clinical obstetric and/or pediatric nursing experience.
  • Graduate degree in nursing from a national accredited school of nursing.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to: Adult learning principles Teaching methodology Curriculum development and evaluation Or a written plan for obtaining such knowledge beginning no later than the first year of teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching theory, laboratory, and/or clinical components (i.e., clinical orientations, labs, clinicals, simulations) in nursing education programs.
  • Willingness to teach across programs (PN, LPN-BSN, AAS, BSNt, MSN/DNP) based on program needs.
  • Primary teaching commitment includes teaching and facilitating the obstetric/pediatric clinical in the BSNt program.
  • Collaborate with various healthcare facilities and secure appropriate clinical placements.
  • Schedule student placements and ensure each student rotation consists of required clinical hours.
  • Supervising student performance of clinical skills simulation, laboratory, and/or patient care in the clinical settings (clinical faculty-to-student ratio is not more than 1:10). This includes the ability to demonstrate clinical skills as needed for student learning.
  • Evaluate student performance in the clinical, simulation, and/or laboratory setting, including grading of clinical written assignments while using CMUs learning management system.
  • Reinforce theoretical and evidence-based content with nursing examples and clinical expectations.
  • Maintaining and promoting positive and productive relationships with healthcare agencies to support high-quality clinical placements.
  • Monitoring and evaluating clinical learning environments to ensure appropriate student learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate socialization of students into the professional registered nurse and/or advanced nurse role.
  • Assist with recruiting and mentoring adjuncts teaching clinicals.
  • Establish, post, and maintain a minimum of five office hours weekly during each academic term of the academic year. Office hours may vary in delivery (i.e., Zoom, Teams, mornings, afternoon, evening hours) for in-person, online, and hybrid courses or based upon the courses taught and student availability to meet.
