About The Position

The Associate Instructor position is a restricted appointment with an instructional load of 36-39 credits over the academic year. This position is relieved of most administrative and governance duties to spend time in student support and student success related activities. The Associate Instructor contract contains no expectation or guarantee of continued employment. Essential Functions: The primary responsibility of an Associate Instructor at Northern Virginia Community College is to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching. Faculty are expected to work with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities. Faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better workers and better citizens. Employees must reside in DC, Maryland or Virginia.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of major concepts, theories, and subject matter in Diesel Technology. Subjects in the discipline include, but are not limited to, Diesel Engine Systems, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Air Brake Systems, Heavy Duty Suspension and Service.

  • Ability to use instructional technology
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time, related occupational experience. Part-time occupational experience will be converted to its full-time equivalent.
  • Associate's degree in the teaching field with demonstrated competencies OR appropriately related education and/or occupational certifications combined with substantial related experience in the occupational field.
  • Qualifying academic degrees and coursework must be awarded by and/or completed with a regionally accredited institution.
  • Additional experience beyond the minimum is required for those applicants/candidates that do not possess a minimum of an associate's degree in the teaching field.
  • Must possess at least two active, unexpired ASE certifications within the Medium- Heavy Truck certification of T1-T8 or Scholl bus certification S1-S7. Additionally, one of the certifications needs to be in electrical and the other in the subject matter to be taught. The certifications are required as a condition for hire and for continued employment if hired.
