Veoneer Safety Systems is seeking an Associate General Counsel to lead day-to-day legal operations across the Americas. You will serve as the primary legal partner to our operations in the region, including manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, human resources, and other key functions - driving operational excellence, managing risks, and enabling growth. This role is hands-on and impact-oriented: ideal for a self-starter who communicates crisply, builds trust with business stakeholders, and enjoys improving how a legal function runs.

Requirements

  • J.D. (or equivalent) and good standing with at least one U.S. state bar (or eligibility for in-house counsel registration in Michigan).
  • 7+ years’ experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter with strong judgment and ability to prioritize in a fast-moving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive or software/technology industry experience.
  • Commercial transactions, including support to Procurement teams, M&A, and general legal matters.
  • Litigation/disputes experience.
  • Hands-on legal-operations tooling and metrics/KPI reporting.
  • Ability to travel ~10% within the Americas

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical legal advice that balances risk and business objectives across regional operations.
  • Support product-related legal matters (commercial contracts, procurement, product compliance and safety/integrity, and product liability).
  • Handle regulatory matters affecting the region, including agency inquiries and governmental investigations.
  • Advise on trade compliance topics for the region, including import/export and related controls.
  • Partner with Compliance on investigations and program enhancements.
  • Coordinate with IP/Patents on inventions, licensing, and protection strategy.
  • Manage disputes and litigation for the region, including early case assessment and outside counsel oversight.
  • Drive core legal-ops disciplines: outside counsel management, budgets and accruals, matter management, KPIs/metrics, and continuous process improvement.
  • Report and communicate regularly on significant matters, risks, and trends to the General Counsel and business leadership.
