About The Position

DoorDash is hiring a seasoned privacy leader to serve as our Associate General Counsel, Global Head of Privacy. In this role, you will own the strategy, design, and execution of a global privacy program that supports DoorDash’s rapid expansion, complex product ecosystem, and large-scale data operations. You will counsel senior executives, partner deeply with Product, Engineering, Security, and Operations teams, and lead a team of exceptional legal professionals responsible for ensuring the company meets its legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations. This role requires a senior operator who has built and led privacy programs at scale, has direct experience working with regulators, and can balance principled privacy leadership with practical judgment in a fast-moving environment. As DoorDash’s Associate General Counsel, Global Head of Privacy, you will be responsible for building and evolving a comprehensive global privacy framework, overseeing regulatory compliance, integrating privacy-by-design into product development, and managing a globally-distributed, talented team of privacy professionals. You will act as the company’s senior-most privacy lawyer and advisor, ensuring we meet the requirements of global privacy laws while advancing our product and business objectives. In this role, you will report to the General Counsel and serve as a member of the Company’s Legal Leadership Team. You will work directly with senior executives, lead cross-functional governance structures, and set the strategy for how DoorDash approaches global data protection across markets and product lines. Requirements

  • You’ve owned a privacy program at scale and have successfully led organizations through regulatory scrutiny and complex product launches.
  • You balance legal risk and business goals, communicate clearly with executives, and apply judgment under uncertainty.
  • You’ve designed systems, policies, governance, and processes and understand what it takes to make them work inside a product-driven company.
  • You have high EQ, strong influence skills, and the ability to navigate ambiguity are essential. You inspire trust across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Even as a senior leader, you can engage at the lowest level of detail when needed, especially on complex product, security, or regulatory questions.
  • J.D. required, admitted to at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 15+ years of legal experience, with 10+ years dedicated to privacy and data protection, including global or regional program leadership.
  • Significant in-house experience at a large multinational, technology, or regulated company; prior privacy leadership role required.
  • Deep familiarity with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other global privacy regimes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing regulator interactions, investigations, and cross-border data transfer strategy.
  • Strong working knowledge of product development, data infrastructure, ad tech, and AI/ML privacy implications.
  • Experience building and managing a global legal or privacy team.

  • CIPP certification is highly preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and oversee a global privacy program aligned with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, other applicable privacy regulatory regimes, and emerging global frameworks.
  • Establish and lead privacy governance structures, policies, audit mechanisms, and accountability frameworks across the organization.
  • Develop a multi-year roadmap that integrates privacy into product development, data management, AI initiatives, and business expansion.
  • Serve as the senior privacy advisor to Product, Engineering, Security, Data Science, and Operations teams.
  • Ensure privacy-by-design is operationalized across product lifecycles, from concept through launch and beyond.
  • Partner with Security to align incident response, data retention strategies, data minimization, and cross-border transfer controls.
  • Spearhead responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, audits, and enforcement actions across jurisdictions.
  • Influence senior leaders across product and business teams, translating complex privacy requirements into practical operational guidance.
  • Drive clarity, alignment, and accountability across multiple stakeholders and fast-moving initiatives.
  • Develop and mentor an incredible team of privacy lawyers and program managers.
