Ancestry is seeking an early career associate genealogist who already speaks, reads, and writes advanced or fluent German, and is eager to develop genealogical expertise in the German-speaking world and General US. The candidate will conduct research for projects from start to finish, aligning with client expectations under the supervision of a research manager (RM) for the two geographic and cultural zones. Successful associate genealogists are disciplined, focused, flexible, strong in technology, growth-minded, and detail-oriented.

Requirements

  • Fluent or advanced German speaker (reading, writing, speaking).
  • Early career genealogist eager to specialize in Germanic and US research.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical evaluation skills.
  • Skilled writer of client updates and research documentation.
  • Effective time/project manager able to work independently.
  • Communicative and collaborative in remote or office settings, eager to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Research Managers to complete tasks and support client goals.
  • Conduct genealogical research in German-speaking and General US regions using proper methods.
  • Utilize advanced German skills for research and client communications.
  • Create and maintain research trees, journals, and accurate citations.
  • Write clear, client-facing research reports with minimal supervision.
  • Manage tasks to meet deadlines, billable hour goals, and provide timely updates.
