About The Position

John Wood Community College (JWCC) is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to join our team as an associate faculty member. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality instruction in both classroom, lab, and clinical settings, ensuring students are well-prepared to become surgical technologists. This role focuses on delivering core concepts, fostering critical thinking, and supporting student success throughout the program.

Requirements

  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Associate degree or greater required.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
  • Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Strong clinical expertise in surgical technology practice and patient care.
  • Ability to teach and mentor students effectively in both classroom and clinical environments.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and provide individualized support to diverse learners.
  • Familiarity with current surgical technology trends and accreditation standards.
  • Ability to learn various instructional technologies and learning management systems (LMS).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and comprehensive instruction in both theoretical and clinical surgical technology courses aligned with the program curriculum.
  • Supervise, guide, and evaluate surgical technology students in clinical settings, promoting the development of clinical competence and professional behavior.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments that align with program objectives and meet accreditation standards.
  • Provide timely feedback and academic support to help students achieve learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, including attendance, grades, and clinical evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that respects diversity and promotes equity among students.
  • Comply with institutional policies and accreditation requirements for surgical technology education and clinical practice.
