About The Position

Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Part-time/Associate Medical Assistant Instructor in the college's Medical Assistant Department.  This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in the Medical Assistant program.  These courses are held on Saturdays from January through June.  This position reports to the Dean of Transfer and Allied Health and works closely with the Director of Health Education Programs. Requirements

  • Current and unencumbered Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or LPN/RN license
  • At least one (1) year clinical experience in an outpatient healthcare setting within the last five (5) years

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching at a community college or providing training in a healthcare setting or inpatient education within the last five (5) years
  • Experience implementing strategies to improve student success and retention
  • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, learning management systems (LMS)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach assigned medical assistant core curriculum courses (MA 115, and MA 116) in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with the Director of Health Education Programs and the Dean of Transfer and Allied Health. Teaching assignments include day, evening, weekend and on or off campus assignment/labs.
  • Utilize best practices for teaching medical assisting, engaging and motivating students to succeed.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule and assist students as needed with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Utilize Canvas, the learning management system at BBCC, to provide students access to course materials and the course gradebook.
  • Teach and maintain safety practices in the labs.
  • Support students' academic success by maintaining regular office hour(s). Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
  • Maintain positive and effective communications frequent communication with their students.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required. Post syllabi quarterly to the portal for each course taught.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
