About The Position

This position supports the work of the Armed Services YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the military community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Associate Executive Director provides support in the following areas: daily operations; human resources; financial management; budget preparation; special events; fundraising; program development, maintenance and implementation; contract tracking including required reports and directly supervises the Fairbanks Program Director, Y on Wheels Shuttle drivers and Bargain Shop staff. The Associate Executive Director serves as the Acting Executive Director in his/her absence.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Must have prior YMCA experience.
  • Minimum age requirement applies; minimum age of 21.
  • Must be an organized self-starter who works well independently as well as on a team. In addition, must be customer service oriented with good phone, interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must have operational management experience.
  • Must have experience in program design and implementation.
  • A basic knowledge of budget development and tracking is highly desired.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe platforms is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.
  • Some travel (30%) is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with public relations and working with local media outlets and/or public affairs is preferred.
  • Must have experience with military lifestyles.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Provides guidance on a multitude of operational issues for both the Anchorage and Fairbanks offices that include days and hours of operations, member communications, acting as a liaison with military leaders, preparing and ensuring compliance with Branch Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supervises and maintains all branch human resources functions.
  • Ensures that all required hiring documents are gathered and placed in the appropriate personnel file.
  • Reviews all invoices to ensure accuracy and appropriateness for the purchase.
  • Ensures that all cash, check or credit card donations are properly documented and posted to the appropriate accounting code.
  • Ensures that all income is timely deposited into the appropriate bank account.
  • Assists in researching and implementing potential new programs that may be offered by the ASYMCA to meet the needs of our military members and their families.
  • Responsible for the Military Courtesy Lounges.
  • Assists with several special events and community outreach events.
  • Assist in determining what data needs to be tracked in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  • Assist in tracking expenses to be charged against various grants and donations from Foundations or Government entities as required in the grant agreement.
  • Assist in drafting grant applications to support ASYMCA programs.
  • Assist in identifying potential donors.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Represents the organization as required by the Executive Director.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
