At Banner Baywood Medical Center, our Emergency Department is a very busy 68-bed Level III Trauma Center. We are a Certified Center of Excellence for stroke, orthopedics, and pediatrics. We care for both adult and pediatric patient populations. The Outpatient Observation Unit is a 26-bed dedicated observation unit. Most patients stay for less than 24 hours and are either discharged to home or admitted to an inpatient nursing unit. The OOU’s average length of stay year to date is 20 hours with over 300 cases per month. The monitor room covers telemetry patients at both Baywood and Heart Hospital. As the Associate Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for daily operations of the Emergency Department at Banner Baywood Medical Center. This will include leading, directing, developing, and implementing strategies for clinical care and having budget and financial responsibilities. Banner Baywood Medical Center is a 342 bed hospital serving the health care needs of the dynamic and growing East Valley communities of metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. We provide complete acute care services and outpatient services to include but not limited to cancer, stroke, women's health, rehabilitation, emergency medicine and surgery. Our Emergency Department treats a variety of ailments and offers advanced treatment areas, with 68 beds, seeing over 50,000 patients per year. We are certified as pediatric prepared as well as designated as a Trauma level 3 emergency room. In addition, our comprehensive orthopedic unit is one of the nation’s premier orthopedic programs. The unit's commitment to excellent patient care has earned a 4 STAR rating by CMS and repeated recognition as having one of the Top 100 Orthopedic Programs in the U.S. by The Health Network and HCIA, Inc. Because we are also a leader in neurological medicine, people throughout Arizona come to us when they need treatment for conditions of the brain, spine and nervous system. POSITION SUMMARY This position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of the assigned areas.

Requirements

• BSN or MSN required for all new hires.
• BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.
• Requires a current RN license in state of practice.
• Requires BLS certification.
• Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management as normally demonstrated through two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area.
• Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes.
• Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements.
• In LTC setting: Requires familiarity with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities.
• Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
• An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
• Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree in nursing preferred.
• Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages and facilitates patient centered nursing care for designated patient populations by serving as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues.
• Manages the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and resource utilization.
• Leads change by developing, implementing and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director.
• Seeks and utilizes input from staff and oversees change implementation.
• Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
• Facilitates communication of system, regional, facility and department initiatives.
• Manages and develops the operational and capital budgets and use of associated resources.
• Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities.
• Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.
• Responsible for selection, orientation, on-boarding, and retention.
• Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.
• Manages large single unit or multiple clinical units to ensure excellent patient care.
• Actively develops leadership of entry level nurse manager(s) while leading clinical improvement initiatives.
• Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians.
• External customers include patient family.
• Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
