About The Position

Location : 25 Shawmut Rd., Canton, MA Hours/week: 35 hours per week (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., with additional hours as required for exempt positions). Exemption: Exempt Pay Range : $87,884.88 – $114,297 starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications Primary responsibilities include cultivation and completion of both irrevocable and revocable planned gifts for The Salvation Army. Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Gift Planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles.
  • Five+ years of experience in a planned giving-centric or philanthropic advisory role, preferably with a mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated record of cultivating and closing gifts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong affinity for the ministry of The Salvation Army.
  • Have or earn within three years from date of hire a level of certification applicable to planned giving, such as: CFP®, JD, CAP®, CFA, CGPA, CGPP or other designation approved by the Territorial Director of Special Gifts.
  • Since the Associate Director will be driving in the performance of his or her duties, at the time of hire the Associate Director must have and maintain a valid automobile operator’s license and an acceptable driving record acceptable to The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Professional cultivation, promotion, and closure of planned gifts within and for the benefit of the Division or corps/units within the Division.
  • Provide proper estate and gift planning education and counsel to donors, prospects, volunteers and volunteer groups, Salvation Army advisory boards and Salvation Army officers and employees who require such knowledge for fulfillment of their respective responsibilities.
  • Advise all donors prior to the completion of each gift, regardless of the type, of The Salvation Army’s allocation procedures governing the distribution of unrestricted gifts and of all designation options through which they may specify their gifts for local or restricted applications.
  • The decision to leave a gift unrestricted or to designate it for any special or local use must be that of the donor.
  • Work in a professional, cooperative, and productive manner with other development staff and Divisional Headquarters personnel.
  • Provide monthly written reports to the Director of Gift Planning and to the Territorial Office of Special Gifts summarizing activities and results of the preceding month, as well as plans for continuing efforts during the then present month. All such reports shall be goal oriented in terms of plans, progress, and production.
  • In consultation with the Director of Gift Planning, agree on program and gift production goals for his/her own work and organize priorities and activities toward the achievement of gift production objectives. It is expected that the Associate Director of Gift Planning will spend at least half of his or her time visiting donors and prospects in their homes, offices, or other private places to discuss their planned giving desires.
  • Devote full time to Gift Planning responsibilities.
