About The Position

The Associate Director of Development will play an integral leadership role on KIPP Public Schools Northern California’s development team, helping to raise significant annual funds from a portfolio of individual and institutional funders. The Associate Director will help execute and implement the direction for our revenue stream. This person will manage and grow a portfolio of individual and institutional donors, to foster and deepen relationships with our donors. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Development will implement donor-centered moves management for annual donors, as well as help facilitate cultivation and stewardship activities. This position will be located at our office in downtown Oakland (BART accessible) with some travel to our 22 (and counting) schools required. This is a hybrid role with the expectation that 2-3 days per week be spent onsite at our school campuses or at our Regional Support Office in Oakland. The position is available immediately. Ideal Candidate You have a passion for building relationships and are an excellent communicator with an eye for detail. You will lead the strategy for prospect research and strive to find ways that their interests and priorities align with our financial needs. You analyze the information at hand to create detailed and creative plans, tactics, and solutions. You like research and organization. You enjoy digging into a prospective donor’s giving tendencies. You are great at looking for opportunities and uncovering new prospects. You are interested in donor data such as retention, renewal, and re-engagement rates. You are extremely organized and exceptional at managing many details at once and multiple deadlines. You create detailed calendars with proposal timelines, stewardship activities, and close dates. You help facilitate and the track moves management for each donor and use it to triage and make strategic decisions alongside the team. You have a strong commitment to public education, equity, and social justice.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 5 years of work experience is strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year of people management experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience in development, particularly around institutional giving required.
  • Prior experience using Salesforce is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through external meetings and communication in partnership with the CEO, Chief External Impact Officer (CXO), Director of Development, and board councils.
  • Collaborate with the other Associate Director of Development to align on strategy for institutions and individuals in one another’s portfolios.
  • Proactively develop place-based and program-specific proposals for individual & institutional donors with support on messaging and focus from the Director of Development
  • Manage, execute, and lead school visits with donors.
  • Lead progress monitoring and process for stewardship and solicitation tracking in Salesforce for own portfolio and CEO and CXO portfolios.
  • Help set direction for and manage the execution of actions for the CEO, CXO, and Director of Development for million-dollar+ relationships.
  • Analyze the motivations, barriers, and networks of funders.
  • Help diversify and expand the giving base.
  • Develop tailored cultivation plans.
  • Analyze and act on donor retention rates.
  • Work with the Director of Development to help manage and execute actions for the CEO and CXO.
  • Consistently and effectively analyze progress to annual and long-term goals and identify prospective funders whose priorities align with KIPP’s work.
  • Prioritize key actions for the CEO, CXO, and Director of Development to take, such as external meetings, and/or correspondence, and prepare/support them to execute cultivation and stewardship plans.
  • With support from the Director of Development and CXO, lead on composing tailored narratives and pitches for funders.
  • Help develop high-quality reporting and engagement materials that convey our successes and learnings to donors, as well as provide insight and context.
  • Produce, curate, and leverage consistent, high-quality donor communications.
  • Create compelling opportunities for current and prospective funders to engage with our schools.
  • Lead preparation for all individual & institutional solicitations in the assigned portfolio.
  • Board Development: Work in close partnership with the Director of Development, CXO, External Campaign Consultant, and board members to build the board’s capabilities in funder engagement, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Engage in departmental strategic planning, budgeting, and goal-setting processes.
  • Work with team members on coordinated donor efforts (ex: fall appeal, newsletters) and multi-stream strategies.
  • With the team, consistently and effectively analyze progress to annual and long-term goals.
  • Coaching and developing Managers and/or Associates on the team.
