Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is currently seeking an Associate Director, DSDH Discovery Portfolio to join our Data Science and Digital Health team (DSDH) and work at one of our sites in either Spring House, PA, Cambridge, MA, Titusville, NJ, or Raritan, NJ (no fully remote option available). Key Responsibilities: As an associate director, you will join the Data Science and Digital Health organization within Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine driving and coordinating the development of databases and data products, in silico immune disease models, and knowledge integration methods to drive the development of innovative drugs. You will play a crucial role in building the technology and infrastructure that will power how we streamline Discovery-facing analyses and integrate AI/ML methods, with the ultimate goal of developing better drugs. This role operates alongside senior leaders in DSDH and immunology and will help guide the development of overall strategy in addition to managing the implementation of the portfolio. Your responsibilities will include overseeing collaborations with multidisciplinary teams, guiding model development, and ensuring adherence to best practices in software engineering. You will work alongside biologists and immunologists to convert their biological hypotheses into testable computational outcomes. This role provides technical leadership, drives cross-functional collaborations, and ensures scientific and engineering rigor across projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in systems biology, computational biology, computer science, software engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant industry experience; or Master’s degree with 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience in designing, managing, and executing projects in drug discovery, differentiation, biomarker design, etc driven using multi-omics, computational modeling, and bioinformatics
  • Demonstrated history of leading multi-disciplinary teams including computational and biological scientists, mediating and maintaining both computational and biological rigor
  • Practical experience working with contract research organizations and managing external research partnerships.
  • Strong project leadership skills: setting strategy, defining milestones, managing timelines, and delivering results.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences, including non-expert stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • First-hand experience in immunology research and drug development highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in the implementation and application of machine learning and ai-powered methods to biology is highly preferred
  • Experience with knowledge integration and multi-model/multi-modal integration methods preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor teams in the development and validation of computational models for immune and autoimmune disease biology, translating biological hypotheses into testable in silico experiments, and developing follow-up experiment plans in response to model predictions.
  • Manage a portfolio of complex projects and collaborations that deepen the integration of data science and functional immunology drug development
  • Serve as the principal partner to Translational Research and/or Discovery teams, aligning project output to therapeutic decision points.
  • Oversee external collaborations with contract research organizations and academic partners; ensure high-quality data exchange and joint deliverables.
  • Communicate results clearly and persuasively through technical reports, internal presentations, cross-functional briefings, and peer-reviewed publications.

  • Occasional travel for cross‑functional workshops, design sessions, and team meetings may be required.
  • The anticipated base pay range for this position is $137,000 to $235,750.
  • The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
