About The Position

The Associate Director for Community Engagement will play a leading role in the Institute for Health Disparities community engagement initiatives and support the IHD team in establishing a robust community engagement strategy with a particular focus on building relationships with community organizations, service providers, educational institutions (universities, colleges, and schools), local governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, and philanthropic organizations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Sociology, Higher Education or relevant field and seven (7) years of relevant experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to plan, lead and manage projects within deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills, including attention to detail, ability to problem solve.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary settings, as part of a team or independently.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare presentations and publications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive professional relationships with External and Internal Program staff and administration, faculty, staff and students across the campus and at other institutions.
  • Ability to build and sustain trusted relationships with diverse communities.
  • Ability to effectively work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well independently and as a member of a highly integrated and diverse team.
  • Strong listening and communication skills.
  • Understand that diversity, equity and inclusion are integral parts of effectively executing our work

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate minority health and health disparities community engagement efforts across UNT Health Science Center schools and colleges.
  • Establish and manage an official Community Advisory Board (CAB) that represents diverse community stakeholders including organizations, federally qualified health centers, local governmental agencies, educational institutions and philanthropic organizations, federally qualified health centers, local governmental agencies, educational institutions and philanthropic organizations.
  • Develop and manage a database of community partners for communication and engagement activities.
  • Facilitate regular community meetings to foster relationship for building collaborations to promote health equity.
  • Applied Interprofessional Education: Develop interprofessional teams (public health, biomedical students, medical students, pharmacists, PAs, social work nursing) of students to engage students, residents and organizations in underserved communities. social work nursing) of students to engage students, residents and organizations in underserved communities.
  • Develop educational programs that lead to certification.
  • Lead and participate in extramural funding applications.
  • Ensure that communication to the community is culturally competent. - (Essential)
  • Work with community leaders to learn their cultural needs and preferences ensuring open, compassionate, and respectful communication.
