About The Position

The Associate Director of the Center for Accessibility Services (CAS) will assist and support the Director in the day-to-day operations of CAS, ensuring the provision of services and support to students with disabilities. This position will be responsible for managing the online database software CAS uses in its day-to-day operations. The position is responsible for maintaining the department's website. This position is responsible for assisting in the University's compliance with ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act by coordinating access to technology, textbooks, and documents for students with documented disabilities in accordance with federal and state legislation. Positively represent the office and students with disabilities through work and partnerships across the university, embracing the Division of Student Affairs' mission and Models of Practice.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with a disability record management system, applications, reporting tools, and databases.
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing, organizing, and developing queries.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service and to be able to exercise discretion and judgment.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing to employees, students, and families/ guardians within a diverse university community.
  • Experience working with individuals living with disabilities.
  • Must take initiative, be flexible, prioritize and work to meet deadlines while attending to details and information in a sensitive work environment.
  • Discretion with confidential information and materials.
  • Solid understanding of laws pertaining to the Americans with Disability Act and how these may apply to best practices in higher education settings.
  • Applicant should have working knowledge of adaptive technologies/equipment, accessibility software, and best practice methods of materials conversion.
  • Advanced degree in Special Education, Social Work, Counseling, Education or related field with 3-5 years of training or experience.

  • Experience reviewing disability documentation and qualifying students with disabilities for academic accommodations in a higher education setting.
