About The Position

The Associate Director of Advancement Communications reports to the Director of Advancement Communications and supports the marketing and development efforts of the Office of Academy Resources (OAR). This role is central to advancing the Academy’s philanthropic priorities through strategic, high-quality communications. The Associate Director serves as a writer, editor, strategist, and project manager, overseeing a portfolio that includes Donor Relations, Advancement Initiatives (Museums and Outreach), and key institutional fundraising efforts. This individual collaborates closely with colleagues across Advancement and the Office of Communication, as well as with external partners, to create compelling and effective communications that inspire engagement and support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional writing and editorial experience, preferably in a higher education or independent school setting.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with digital communications platforms, including email marketing tools, content management systems, and social media, or a willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in advancement, fundraising, or donor communications strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships between Advancement Communications and key OAR partners, including Stewardship/Donor Relations and Advancement Initiatives.
  • Develop and implement annual communications strategies that support fundraising and engagement goals.
  • Create and oversee print and digital communications for a range of initiatives, including donor societies, endowment reporting, scholarship stewardship, and programmatic outreach.
  • Partner with senior advancement leadership on priority initiatives, including major campaigns and strategic fundraising efforts aligned with the Academy’s long-range plan.
  • Write feature stories for institutional publications, including ASPIRE and Andover magazine.
  • Edit and proofread a wide array of external communications, including appeals, campaign materials, and leadership messages.
  • Contribute to digital communications efforts, including email campaigns, website content, and social media.
