The Associate Director, Actuarial Services, Pricing leads ACA Individual & Family Plan (IFP) pricing and strategy for 1–2 state markets. This role serves as the actuarial authority for assigned markets, partnering closely with health plan leadership to ensure rates are competitive, compliant, and actuarially sound while supporting UnitedHealth Group’s mission to improve access and affordability. You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or related field
  • ASA or FSA designation
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience
  • Actuarial experience in health care, specifically with experience in developing program rates and pricing methodologies
  • Advanced or higher level of proficiency with MS Excel

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing or supervising others
  • Proficiency with SAS and/or SQL
  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead actuarial pricing strategy for assigned ACA Individual markets, including rate filings and objection management with state regulators
  • Own market‑level pricing analyses, including trend, morbidity, benefit changes, and competitive positioning
  • Serve as actuarial lead in cross‑functional pricing decisions with Product, Network, and Finance
  • Ensure compliance with CMS and state requirements, including NBPP, URRT, and actuarial standards
  • Manage and mentor actuarial analysts, providing coaching, feedback, and development planning
  • Own key pricing tools, models, or functional areas used across the broader IFP actuarial organization
