Since 1857, The Atlantic has been a home for some of America’s best writers and boldest thinkers, from Ralph Waldo Emerson and Frederick Douglass to James Baldwin and Sylvia Plath. Now, we are looking for someone who is passionate about journalism and The Atlantic’s mission to join the Consumer Strategy & Growth team as a junior designer. This person will be responsible for designing and producing promotions that engage readers, convert prospective subscribers, and deepen relationships with existing customers—all while upholding the quality of The Atlantic brand. Candidates should be skilled in design thinking such as color, composition, typography, and visual hierarchy. They should also be self-starting, curious, and data-informed. The junior designer will have a unique opportunity to work on a range of reader-facing assets, from social media campaigns to email to banner ads. Often working within a design system, you should know when to apply established design patterns and styles, as well as when to evolve them. This position is highly collaborative with other creatives—including a senior designer and copywriters—and will work closely with editorial colleagues, marketing strategists, data analysts, and many others across The Atlantic. We are seeking a talented and imaginative designer who also thinks analytically and strategically—someone with experience and/or a mindset rooted in optimization through audience segmentation, targeted creative, A/B testing, and more. This position is ideal for someone looking to work collaboratively in both a creative team and a growth marketing team, to support The Atlantic in building a profitable and sustainable business, and to help bring vital journalism to millions of readers around the world. If you are searching for a job with purpose, this is it.
