About The Position

Reporting to the Dean of Milner Library, the Associate Dean for Information Assets will work in close cooperation with the Associate Dean for Public Services and Organizational Development to coordinate operations, services, and strategic initiatives in a shared governance environment. The Associate Dean for Information Assets will have primary responsibility for the library's collections, technical services, and scholarly communication initiatives. The AD for Information Assets directly oversees the heads of collection development and technical services; as well as the scholarly communication librarian, copyright librarian, digitization coordinator, and conservator. Comprised of more than 25 faculty and staff, the division also includes interns and student assistants. The Associate Dean for Information Assets plays a strategic leadership role in managing the library’s physical and digital collections to support the institution’s research, teaching, and learning missions. The position ensures that collections and services are aligned with academic priorities, facilitates discovery and access of library materials, and supports digitization initiatives aimed at preserving and expanding access to unique and historical materials. The role also encompasses scholarly communication, including support for open access publishing and institutional repositories, and ensures that technical services workflows are efficient, innovative and responsive to evolving user needs. The AD will stay abreast of trends in scholarly communications and technical services within the library profession, particularly as they relate to supporting teaching and research in higher education. As an active member of the Library Administrative team, the AD will support and implement library-wide initiatives and projects.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in library and/or information science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or from a program recognized by the American Library Association as an international equivalent.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in an academic library, with three years or more years at a supervisory level
  • Demonstrated record of excellence in librarianship, research, and service to qualify for tenure and appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in Milner Library at Illinois State University.
  • Ability to work independently and in concert with others in a strongly collegial and participative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to manage diverse, simultaneous assignments in a rapidly changing organization
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the library's role in student success
  • Demonstrated potential to meet University promotion and tenure requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the administration of library management systems, particularly the Alma/Primo VE environment, in a consortial environment.
  • Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property issues.
  • Experience with grant development and administration
  • Experience with collection management methodologies and tools

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with members of other library units and individuals to achieve organizational goals.
  • Maintain close working relationships with other university areas, particularly the Graduate School, Office of Sponsored Programs and Research, Office of the General Counsel, Facilities, and Human Resources.
