About The Position

The Associate Dean of Community Engagement is selected and appointed by, continues to serve at the pleasure of, and reports directly to the Dean; the authority of the office of the Associate Dean derives directly from the authority of the Dean. Responsibilities The Associate Dean, Community Engagement is responsible for leadership, supervision, and coordination of the following: a) educational programs and clinical services in Laredo and South Texas; b) extramural funding for clinical and research efforts focused on community services; c) School of Dentistry community service and community engagement; d) community partnerships and foundation relations, including community programs and contracts in collaboration with specialty departments; e) clinical faculty development at the Laredo campus; and f) strategic planning as it relates to processes listed here. In fulfilling these obligations, the Associate Dean, Community Engagement: Interacts closely and cooperates with other committees, administrative offices and service offices such as the Associate and Assistant Deans in the School of Dentistry and the UT Health San Antonio Vice President for Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs; Develops community partnerships that benefit students, faculty members, and the school and maintains contracts and relations related to those partnerships in collaboration with specialty departments; Develops and distributes all necessary communications with clinical departments at the Laredo campus, including developing and communicating clinical policy and procedure in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Patient Care; Assists and advises the Dean concerning community service and community engagement, foundation relations, faculty development, and strategic planning matters; Oversees programs related to offsite clinical and research services provided to Central and South Texas communities; Ensures proper management of assets, clinical inventory, and sterilization processes and equipment at the Laredo campus; Prepares reports concerning community engagement and various related matters; Participates in the general administration of the School of Dentistry with the Dean, Vice Dean of Finance and Administration, and other members of the administration; Maintains a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and the school maintains compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; and Serves as an ex-officio member of and provides guidance and direct administrative support to various committees involved in the aforementioned clinical processes, including the Clinical Quality Assurance and Risk Management Committee, the two Curriculum Committees (DS 1&2 and DS 3&4), Dental Education Outreach committee, Wellness Committee, Faculty Development Committee, Outcomes Assessment Committee, and Strategic Planning Committee.

Requirements

  • Doctoral of Dental Surgery degree (or equivalent dental qualification)
  • Eligibility for and possession of an active Texas dental license by the start date
  • Extensive experience supervising students in a clinical setting or in direct delivery of patient care
