Overview: We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Data Analyst to join our team at a leading wealth management firm. In this role, you will serve as the critical bridge between business stakeholders and the data engineering team, ensuring that data-driven solutions are designed, delivered, and adopted in ways that directly address business needs. The ideal candidate combines exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a strong technical foundation in data engineering workflows, enabling them to translate complex stakeholder requirements into actionable, scalable solutions. Success in this role looks like: Acting as the force multiplier for the data engineering team by eliminating ambiguity in requirements, reducing back-and-forth with stakeholders, and ensuring engineers can focus on building rather than discovery. You will bring clarity to scope, data ownership, and functional requirements. This will inevitably result in faster delivery, fewer iterations, and data solutions that meet business needs from the start.

Requirements

  • Experience: 4+ years of experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or related role with significant exposure to data engineering or analytics engineering environments.
  • Requirements Management: Demonstrated expertise in leading requirements gathering sessions with diverse stakeholder groups and producing clear, actionable documentation such as BRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on familiarity with data engineering concepts and tools including SQL Snowflake, ETL/ELT pipeline design, data, and workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Matillion, dbt).
  • Data Visualization: Working knowledge of BI and visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. Ability to interpret and validate dashboard outputs against business requirements.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to engage confidently with both technical teams and senior business stakeholders. Able to simplify complex technical concepts without losing accuracy.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to diagnose data and workflow issues, assess solution options, and recommend a path forward with supporting rationale.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives, prioritize effectively under competing demands, and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Stakeholder Requirements Gathering: Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders — including operations, finance, compliance, and executive leadership — and the data engineering team. Lead discovery sessions and interviews to elicit, document, and validate business requirements with precision and clarity.
  • Solution Design & Delivery: Translate stakeholder requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications. Partner with data engineers and architects to design end-to-end data solutions, overseeing delivery from concept through deployment to ensure the final product solves the defined business problem.
  • Data Pipeline Collaboration: Work alongside data engineering teams to understand, review, and provide input on ETL/ELT pipeline design, data modeling, and workflow orchestration. Serve as a translator between business intent and technical implementation, ensuring alignment throughout the build process.
  • Process Analysis & Improvement: Analyze existing data workflows and business processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities. Propose and champion improvements that leverage modern data tooling to enhance reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and decision-making speed.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Partner with data stewards and engineering teams to establish and enforce data quality standards, lineage documentation, and governance practices. Proactively identify data integrity issues and work cross-functionally to resolve them.
  • Testing & Validation: Develop and execute user acceptance testing (UAT) plans for new data products, dashboards, and pipeline changes. Validate that delivered solutions meet the original business requirements and perform reliably under real-world conditions.
  • Communication & Stakeholder Management: Provide regular, clear status updates to business and technical stakeholders at all levels. Translate technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences and advocate for business priorities within technical teams.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain thorough documentation including business requirements documents (BRDs), data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, process maps, and solution guides to support adoption, onboarding, and ongoing operations.
