Associate, Data Analyst

Cresset CapitalChicago, IL

About The Position

Cresset is an independent, award-winning multi-family office and private investment firm focused on reimagining wealth management. They aim to help clients optimize wealth and life, providing access to talent, ideas, and investment opportunities typically available to large single-family offices. Cresset is client and employee-owned, built to endure for over 100 years, and recognized by Barron’s and Forbes. The firm is guided by long-term relationships, shared success, and the belief that wealth should serve a life well lived. The company is seeking a motivated and collaborative Data Analyst to join their team at a leading wealth management firm. This role serves as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and the data engineering team, ensuring data-driven solutions address business needs. The ideal candidate needs strong interpersonal and communication skills combined with a technical foundation in data engineering workflows to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions. Success in this role involves acting as a force multiplier for the data engineering team by clarifying requirements, reducing back-and-forth, and ensuring engineers can focus on building, leading to faster delivery and solutions that meet business needs from the start.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in a business analyst, data analyst, or related role with significant exposure to data engineering or analytics engineering environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading requirements gathering sessions with diverse stakeholder groups and producing clear, actionable documentation such as BRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Hands-on familiarity with data engineering concepts and tools including SQL Snowflake, ETL/ELT pipeline design, data, and workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Matillion, dbt).
  • Working knowledge of BI and visualization platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker. Ability to interpret and validate dashboard outputs against business requirements.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to engage confidently with both technical teams and senior business stakeholders. Able to simplify complex technical concepts without losing accuracy.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to diagnose data and workflow issues, assess solution options, and recommend a path forward with supporting rationale.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives, prioritize effectively under competing demands, and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders — including operations, finance, compliance, and executive leadership — and the data engineering team. Lead discovery sessions and interviews to elicit, document, and validate business requirements with precision and clarity.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into detailed functional and technical specifications. Partner with data engineers and architects to design end-to-end data solutions, overseeing delivery from concept through deployment to ensure the final product solves the defined business problem.
  • Work alongside data engineering teams to understand, review, and provide input on ETL/ELT pipeline design, data modeling, and workflow orchestration. Serve as a translator between business intent and technical implementation, ensuring alignment throughout the build process.
  • Analyze existing data workflows and business processes to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and opportunities. Propose and champion improvements that leverage modern data tooling to enhance reporting accuracy, operational efficiency, and decision-making speed.
  • Partner with data stewards and engineering teams to establish and enforce data quality standards, lineage documentation, and governance practices. Proactively identify data integrity issues and work cross-functionally to resolve them.
  • Develop and execute user acceptance testing (UAT) plans for new data products, dashboards, and pipeline changes. Validate that delivered solutions meet the original business requirements and perform reliably under real-world conditions.
  • Provide regular, clear status updates to business and technical stakeholders at all levels. Translate technical concepts into accessible language for non-technical audiences and advocate for business priorities within technical teams.
  • Create and maintain thorough documentation including business requirements documents (BRDs), data flow diagrams, data dictionaries, process maps, and solution guides to support adoption, onboarding, and ongoing operations.
