Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work from an accredited college or university (per Virginia regulations)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in substance use treatment, mental health, or a related field
  • Associate-, assistant-, or resident-level licensure or certification as required by Virginia Acceptable Virginia Credentials: – Resident in Counseling – Resident in Social Work – Supervisee in Clinical Social Work

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the clinical team in patient care decisions and attend all clinical meetings
  • Assess counseling needs and conduct substance use evaluations using ASAM and DSM criteria
  • Develop and implement the counseling portion of each patient’s treatment plan
  • Provide individual counseling, group therapy, and family sessions
  • Reassess patients and update treatment plans as clinically indicated
  • Develop discharge and continuum-of-care plans to ensure appropriate transitions
  • Document all counseling services, assessments, referrals, and follow-ups in the patient record
  • Maintain an assigned caseload, including case management and clinical documentation
  • Coordinate support services for patients and families and communicate with referral sources
  • Attend team meetings, complete required training, and assist with administrative tasks
