About The Position

webAI is seeking an Associate Counsel to support a diverse portfolio of legal, policy, and regulatory work across our rapidly growing organization. This role will partner closely with leadership, engineering, public sector teams, and external stakeholders to help navigate complex legal landscapes, support transactional and policy matters, and ensure responsible growth in a fast-moving technology environment. This role is ideal for a versatile attorney with strong analytical skills, excellent writing abilities, and the ability to distill complex issues for varied audiences. You will help shape how breakthrough AI technology interacts with evolving legal and regulatory frameworks.

Requirements

  • J.D. required , with a strong academic background.
  • 5+ years of experience in legal, policy, or government affairs roles.
  • Active U.S. security clearance or eligibility and willingness to obtain one.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex issues for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience working in environments involving government, policy, or complex regulatory issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with or within public environments, including Capitol Hill, federal agencies, defense organizations, or federal courts.
  • Strong foundation in legal research and writing, particularly involving complex or interdisciplinary issues.
  • Background in technology law or experience supporting technology companies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct legal and policy research across a wide range of regulatory, contractual, and operational issues.
  • Draft and review memoranda, policies, briefings, and internal guidance documents.
  • Support federal, state, and local regulatory compliance efforts across commercial and public sector engagements.
  • Assist with commercial and government contracting workflows, including reviewing terms, supporting negotiations, and assessing risk.
  • Provide legal analysis on emerging technology issues, including privacy, data use, AI governance, and intellectual property.
  • Prepare summaries and presentations that translate complex legal or policy issues for technical, operational, and leadership teams.
  • Support responses to legislative, regulatory, and industry inquiries.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and public sector teams to assess legal implications of programs and mission deployments.
  • Contribute to the development of internal policies, governance frameworks, and compliance procedures.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel as needed on specialized matters.
