About The Position

Teach For America Greater New Orleans seeks a part-time Literacy Content Facilitator for its initial teacher preparation program. The Content Facilitator will facilitate up to (2) hours of synchronous professional development per month, primarily virtually via Zoom, but with the possibility of some in-person sessions (New Orleans). Additionally, the Content Facilitator will score and provide feedback on asynchronous coursework on a monthly basis, including providing remastered options for teacher candidates as needed. Up to ten (10) hours per month will be required for the Content Facilitator to grade session deliverables and assessments, provide feedback to teacher candidates (corps members) both via writing and individual conferencing, and provide options for remastered. The ideal candidate is an alum of Teach For America and a current teacher or school leader. They have strong organizational skills, an orientation towards relationship building and supporting others, and are a strong steward of the values of Teach For America.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree Required
• 5+ years of classroom teaching experience in the applicable content area
• Must have LDOE-recognized specialized training in instructing teacher candidates on pedagogical methods for teaching students with dyslexia (ex: Dyslexia-specific AIM Pathways training; Louisiana Center for Dyslexia training; Coursera “Overcoming Dyslexia” training)
• Quantifiable success as a classroom teacher, with demonstrated success in reaching Broader Student Outcomes
• Strong understanding of early teacher development and foundational knowledge/understanding/orientations that lead to strong student outcomes
• Belief in and understanding of Culturally Relevant Pedagogy
• Previously demonstrated skills and belief in building relationships across lines of difference, connecting to adult learners, and creating and contributing to a strong culture
• Strong organization, time management, and verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to adjust and be flexible in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
• Enjoys being a part of a collective coalition striving for rigorous development of teachers to reach equitable outcomes for kids
• Committed to developing themselves, others, and the broader institute community through intentional engagement, reflection, and feedback
• Adeptness with Zoom and other virtual platforms
• Ability to work weekend and evening hours

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree preferred
• Previous experience facilitating adult learning

Responsibilities

• Use the TFA-provided Foundations of Literacy & Dyslexia curriculum to prepare for and facilitate up to two hours of synchronous professional development each month, beginning in June and ending in May (primarily via Zoom but with the potential for a few in-person sessions)
• Score all session deliverables from both asynchronous and synchronous coursework and provide feedback to teacher candidates via methods such as written feedback and 1:1 conferencing
• Provide options for remastery as needed
• Be available to teacher candidates for questions or support needed
• Participate in check-ins with TFA staff as requested
• Provide TFA staff with documentation regarding teacher candidate attendance, participation, and mastery
