Be part of what truly makes us special and impactful. We are seeking a dedicated Associate Attorney for our San Antonio, Texas USAA corporate headquarters location. As a dedicated Associate Attorney, you will be responsible for providing legal counsel to assigned clients within USAA. Analyzes legal issues of a routine and moderately complex nature and communicating legal advice. You will engage with business clients to better understand USAA’s strategic and operational objectives. Collaborates with internal stakeholders within business units and the Chief Legal Office. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position will be based in San Antonio, TX. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in one state or a territory of the USA OR must pass the State Bar exam and receive a license to practice law within 10 months of hire date.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to three years of legal practice experience drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements within a financial services company or at a law firm supporting a financial services company.
  • Understanding of privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, GDPR) and data‑sharing regulations in a financial services environment.
  • Knowledge of legal considerations related to digital product design and user experience.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for information security within financial services.
  • Understanding of the evolving legal landscape surrounding Artificial Intelligence.
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Responsibilities

  • Provides legal counsel to support business objectives and mitigate regulatory, compliance and litigation risk to USAA.
  • Leads routine to moderately complex legal assignments and delivers appropriate solutions.
  • Effectively communicates with internal stakeholders in both verbal and written forms.
  • Monitors and analyzes changes in laws, regulations and industry and advises organizational leadership of such changes as appropriate.
  • Supports senior attorneys with legal questions or issues by leveraging general knowledge and conducting research.
  • Ensures escalation of matters presenting more significant risk to more senior attorneys.
  • If awaiting bar licensure, assignments will be completed under the supervision of a licensed attorney. All legal advice will be provided by a licensed attorney.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
