About The Position

Eastern Connecticut State University is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Associate Athletic Director Sports Communications position. Eastern is Connecticut’s Public Liberal Arts University and is located in Willimantic, Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2.5 hours from New York City. Eastern is one of four universities in the Connecticut State College and University System (CSCU). The position also offers substantial health and retirement benefits. The position of Associate Athletic Director Sports Communications. This is a full-time, 12-month position, reporting to the Director of Athletics. This position is responsible for promoting and publicizing a comprehensive athletics program. The successful candidate will have oversight of all sports communication efforts, including media relations, statistics, digital content creation, budgetary development and monitoring, athletics websites and game day communication operations. The position supervises the assistant director, student workers, media/live stream interns, and photographers. This position involves significant weekend and evening hours. The successful candidate will develop a comprehensive media strategy to highlight athletic and academic achievements, foster fan engagement and publicize highlights to aid in athletics recruiting. Strong writing, editing and organizational skills are necessary. Experience with athletics website platforms (Sidearm is the current provider), statistical software, and social media management are preferred. Experience with live video streaming of athletic broadcasts is highly preferred. Supervisory experience in a collegiate sports communication setting is preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, Sports Management, Journalism or a related field
  • 4 years of media relations or sport communication experience at collegiate level
  • Proficiency in statistical software (NCAA Live Stats, PrestoStats)
  • Proficiency in game day operations and press box management
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
